What are optyl frames?
Optyl® is a duroplastic material that is extremely light and comfortable because it adapts to the wearer’s face. Optyl® is also hypoallergenic and non-irritant since it contains no plasticisers. Furthermore, Optyl® is treated with a special surface coating which protects it from corrosion caused by sweat and cosmetics.
Can you heat optyl frames?
Cellulose propionate frames are highly heat sensitive and can stretch out of form easily when overheated. Optyl frames can warp if they’re overheated, and an under-heated optyl frame can snap during adjustment. You should never use heat to insert lenses because it will shrink the polymide eyewire.

Since acetate frames aren’t pliable at room temperature, you need to add heat. To do this, you can either run your frames under hot water or heat them with a hair dryer for 20 seconds. Once they are warm, use light pressure to adjust your frames.
What’s the difference between Optyl lens and glass lens?
The lens for Optyl eyewear can be 0.4 mm larger in size when of the CR-39 or similar variety, and 0.2 mm larger when using a glass lens. For lenses to be positioned correctly, it is important that the frames be warmed evenly and left to cool down slowly once lenses have been inserted!
