Unlike the self-discipline approach where students are responsible, the desist approach places teachers as the responsible ones. This approach can be viewed as a power system, as teachers have the power and they set the specific rules to give students discipline and correct students’ behaviors.
How teachers should discipline learners?
To help with managing student behavior, here are a few discipline strategies for teachers to keep in mind:
- Discipline with Dignity. All students need to be treated with dignity.
- Teach Students Responsibility. Students need to be taught that they are responsible for their own behavior.
- Exercise Break.
- Reward Good Behavior.

- Keep in mind positive discipline can fail is the student or the class is not rewarded quickly enough and clearly enough.
- Always emphasize the task, rather than the behavior.
- Don’t take behavior outbursts personally.

Now a days a teacher is not supposed to punish a student. In earlier days parents never turned to the school of their child. In my childhood, when teachers punished us, we never used to complaint against teacher at home….Should teachers punish students?
